Greeting and Welcome

Prelude Music

Call to Worship

Pastor: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all you people!
All: With shouts of joy we celebrate the good news of God’s love.
Pastor: Open your hearts to the warmth of God’s redeeming love.
All: God has poured such wonder into our lives!
Pastor: Come, let us worship God with hearts and souls and voices!
All: Let our praise ring to the rafters and ascend to the heavens!

Opening Prayer

All: For the healing love you have offered to us; for the patience you have with us; for your presence that will never fail, we give you thanks, O Lord. Bring our hearts and spirits to you that we may grow in our faith and service to you by serving others. We ask this in Jesus’ Name.  Amen.
Hymn “Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart”  UMH #160
Text: Edward H. Plumptre, 1821-1891

Music: Arthur H. Messiter, 1834-1916

1. Rejoice, ye pure in heart;
rejoice, give thanks and sing;
your glorious banner wave on high,
the cross of Christ your King.

Rejoice, rejoice,
rejoice, give thanks and sing.

2. Your clear hosannas raise,
and alleluias loud;
whilst answering echoes upward float,
like wreaths of incense cloud.

3. Yes, on through life’s long path,
still chanting as ye go;
from youth to age, by night and day,
in gladness and in woe.

4. At last the march shall end;
the wearied ones shall rest;
the pilgrims find their heavenly home,
Jerusalem the blest.

5. Praise God who reigns on high,
the Lord whom we adore,
the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
one God forevermore.

A Litany for Mother’s Day

Leader: Mothers come in many different forms, and today we celebrate them all!
All: Thank God for mothers!
Leader: Everyone here is either a son or a daughter.
All: Thank God for my mother!
Leader: For those women who have joined God in Heaven and whom we miss dearly here on earth.
All: Thank God for the mothers of the past.
Leader: For every woman who is working day and night to raise her children right now.
All: Thank God for the mothers of today.
Leader: For all the women who are expecting, but aren’t quite mothers yet!
All: Thank God for the soon-to-be-mothers.
Leader: For the women who took in others’ children through adoption and foster care.
All: Thank God for the mothers with hearts so big.
Leader: For those women who have lost a child to death and must carry on.
All: Thank God for the mothers who are so strong.
Leader: For all the women who have desperately wanted to have children of their own, but chose instead to mother everyone else.
All: Thank God for the mothers in spirit.
Leader: Let us pray
All: We thank you, Lord, for the women who have influenced our lives in so many ways. We pray that we will honor them in everything we do. Amen.

Prayers of the People, Lord’s Prayer

Hymn “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”  UMH #384
Text: Charles Wesley, 1707-1788
Music: John Zundel, 1857-1882.

1. Love divine, all loves excelling,
joy of heaven, to earth come down;
fix in us thy humble dwelling;
all thy faithful mercies crown!
Jesus thou art all compassion,
pure, unbounded love thou art;
visit us with thy salvation;
enter every trembling heart.

2. Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit
into every troubled breast!
Let us all in thee inherit;
let us find that second rest.
Take away our bent to sinning;
Alpha and Omega be;
end of faith, as its beginning,
set our hearts at liberty.

3. Come, Almighty to deliver,
let us all thy life receive;
suddenly return and never,
nevermore thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
serve thee as thy hosts above,
pray and praise thee without ceasing,
glory in thy perfect love.

4. Finish, then, thy new creation;
pure and spotless let us be.
Let us see thy great salvation
perfectly restored in thee;
changed from glory into glory,
till in heaven we take our place,
till we cast our crowns before thee,
lost in wonder, love, and praise.

Choose to be a person of Joy. Let joy in your heart and share the joy of Christ with all you meet. Share joy by seeing the good in each other. Share joy by remembering good times and hoping for good times to come. Share joy by praying for our hurting world. Go forth and rejoice!  Amen.
