Seeking Communications Director

Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church seeks to hire a Communications Director.  The job is part-time (20-25 hours per week), with pay dependent upon qualifications and experience. Please see full description below or Click Here to download as a PDF.

General Description

The Communications Director, in consultation with the Pastor, will have oversight and responsibility for the communications needs of Andrew Chapel, both internally and externally, working with staff, church leadership, and committees of the church, as well as local media outlets.

 

Specific Responsibilities

Identity

• Help develop, refine and implement a consistent graphic identity for Andrew Chapel

• Ensure that communications consistently reflect the identity of our church (appearance, tone, & message)

• Assist staff and church leaders in advertising special events and church functions

 

Electronic Communications

• Prepare the weekly e-Newsletter

• Produce worship and sermon videos and post to church website or YouTube.

• Maintain and update TV monitors at Welcome Table in Narthex

• Manage communications on the Andrew Chapel website

– Updating pages as needed

– Working with staff and church leaders to produce new copy as needed

– Maintaining fresh images, working with lay volunteers to take new photos of parish events

– Soliciting information and writing entries to the Andrew Chapel “Being the Church” from staff and lay members, with the goal of a new post at least twice a month

– Coordinate a website refresh consistent with our brand identity

 

Print

• Prepare communications aspects of weekly bulletins for Sunday worship

• Produce flyers, brochures, post-cards and other printed material as needed

• Assist with Annual Charge Conference Reports

• Assist with the occasional all-church mailing

 

Social Media

• With the Pastor and other staff, oversee our social media channels

• Advise on aesthetic look and content of video recorded church services

• Create social media content that helps spread our brand identity and message

• Monitor and respond to comments on social media (response goal: within 24 hrs)

 

Media

• Work with local and regional media, as well as with wider church communicators, to place stories about Andrew Chapel’s ministries and events

• Produce and place ads as needed

 

Administrative

• Attend weekly staff meetings with Pastor

• Coordinate calendar entries for events with Administrative Staff

• Maintain a budget for areas of oversight

 

Required Skills

• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a variety of people while maintaining a professional demeanor

• Motivated, self-starter

• Good organizational skills

• Ability to set and maintain boundaries and expectations around timelines and workloads

• Excellent written and oral communications skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Office 360, Power Point, and Google Docs

• Proficient with social media, especially Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube

• Ability to learn new skills as needed

 

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of WordPress or similar CMS

• Knowledge of MailChimp or similar email marketing platform

• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, or similar graphics software

• Knowledge of Servant Keeper software

• Experience with or willingness to learn audio/video recording technology

 

Supervision

The Communications Director reports directly to the Pastor for supervision and annual evaluation.

 

Compensation & Benefits

This is a part-time position with pay between $20/hr to $25/hr dependent upon qualifications and experience. Expectation of 20-25 hours worked per week, both remote and onsite. Some weekend hours will be required, especially during special events as well as posting live-stream Sunday services to social media outlets. Two weeks of vacation, to be scheduled with the pastor.
