Dear Andrew Chapel Family,
Since early March, the Health and Wellness Team, a team required by our UMC Virginia Conference because of the pandemic, has been diligently monitoring the effects of COVID-19 in our area. We are following all the guidelines set by the Governor of Virginia, local authorities, the CDC, and Bishop Lewis as to how we will re-open our building and outdoor space for in-person worship and other gatherings. For now, Andrew Chapel will continue to delay in-house worship in our sanctuary until at least the second week of November. We do this out of care and concern for our members. We are working to develop some small group opportunities to gather in what we are calling Hybrid Ministries. Look for an upcoming announcement on this, and how small groups can safely meet again. We know this is difficult, but remember, our church is not closed – just our building for in-person worship. We continue to “be the church” as we worship together online and carry out God’s work in our community.
Andrew Chapel Preschool, which falls under both the Department of Social Services and the United Methodist Church, has been approved to reopen with very stringent guidelines and precautions in place. Use of our building by other groups, including church-based groups, is not yet approved, but our Health and Wellness Team is looking into how we can safely begin some small group ministries, starting outdoors. We will continue to keep you, as well as others who use our building, informed.
Meanwhile, for those who are allowed limited access to the building, as well as the Preschool, we have implemented required sign-in/out forms to be used in the event that contact tracing might be required. All who enter are required to wear masks that cover both nose and mouth. Face shields may be used, but only with a mask.
We continue to pray for your health and safety, and look for ways in which we can be in service to our members and community.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Matt and the Health and Wellness Team
