In-Person Worship Services and Church Activities
Suspended Through April 30th

Hello friends,

Grace and peace to you.  Our church, community, state, nation, and the world are living in very unusual times because of the coronavirus pandemic.  Here is what I want you to know: God is with us, loves us, and is for us.   As Paul said, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31).

Your church leadership and I are continually monitoring the situation, and we are following the direction of our District and Conference offices as well as our federal, state, and local government officials and healthcare professionals.  Bishop Sharma Lewis has requested that all in-person worship services be canceled through Sunday, April 26th.  In addition, all other church-related events and activities, including outside organizations using the church property are also canceled through April 30th.  I am working with leadership to find new ways of being connected with you during these peculiar times.  Know that I will be streaming worship on Facebook during our regular worship time at 10:00 a.m., so be sure to tune in and share it with your friends.  As this is new for us, we are still looking at the best ways to proceed, so pray things will go smoothly.  In addition, I will be posting online meditations or devotionals for you to read.  I hope you will take the time to read them and share them with your family and friends.

We need each other now more than ever.  Being told to keep our social distance from one another and finding ourselves spending more and more time at home can make us feel isolated.  As such, I am going to do all I can to keep us connected.  Be looking for future updates from me as to how we can continue to be the church, not only for one another but also for our neighbors.  One way we can begin this connection is to pray for one another.  Also, if you have any prayer concerns or needs, please let me know.  Feel free to email me at  We also have a prayer chain.  If you would like to share your prayer concerns with them please email Dee Leggett at

I love our church and I love each one of you!  Keep this in mind as you go about the rest of your week: God is for us – always!

In God’s care,
Pastor Matt

Message from Bishop Sharma Lewis, 4-3-20

Dear Virginia Conference,
This worldwide COVID-19 pandemic has forced both secular and faith communities to change the way we go about our work as we focus on the safety and well-being of individuals inside and outside of our communities.
In-person worship services are canceled on all United Methodist Church properties until April 30th.  This includes Holy Week services. We will revisit the possibility of re-opening our churches for in-person worship on or before April 30th.
