Summer at Andrew Chapel

Summer Theme: “Growing with God”

For the past several years in our area, summertime has meant one thing: drought. Farmers watch crops dry up in the fields, reservoir levels drop, and communities begin to impose restrictions on water use.

The church also typically experiences a summertime drought, only it takes the form of low attendance, reduced giving levels, and a sense that not much is happening. This year at Andrew Chapel we intend to do all we can to combat the usual summertime drought by making this a season of vitality and growth. Some of the ways we intend to do this include the following.

A Return to One Service

Some years ago, we extended our two-service schedule throughout the summer. This has worked well, but has meant that the fellowship of one full sanctuary has been missing. We will return this summer to one service at 10:00 a.m. beginning June 22 and running through August.

Summer Sermon Series

“Daughters of Eve: Seeing Ourselves in Women of the Bible” will be the focus of our summer sermon series. This is a follow-up to last summer’s series on the disciples.

Summer Mission Trips

Our Senior High youth will be going to M-FUGE in Charleston, S.C. the week of June 23. Our Junior High youth are planning to participate in the Jeremiah Project once again this summer.

Mission Garden

Have you seen the square staked out in front of the playground? This will become our Mission Garden, in which we will grow a variety of vegetables for local food banks and feeding programs, such as Food for Others. Your family can sign up to tend the garden and help with the harvest.

Spiritual Training Camp

We are planning a unique Vacation Bible School this year – one for all ages! It will be Aug. 24 through Aug. 27, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., and will include dinner each night, along with games and spiritual growth sessions. All children must be accompanied by at least one parent.

The Good News Games

We will round out the summer with the “Good News Games” on Sept. 7. Food, fun, and fellowship will be the order of the day!
